I started in the AV industry in 2007 at CCS Presentation Systems where I was lucky enough to participate in the first two Schoolview integrations at Franklin High School and Reynolds Elementary School in Franklin Texas.
My second job in the industry was at APT Communications in Austin. A company that did A/V integrations and Telecor intercom systems for K-12 schools. I moved from integrator to estimator of intercom systems about six months after I started at APT.
I was hired away from APT Communications in 2010 to work for Schoolview in Plano. I provided a mostly support role at Schoolview. Where I’d build configuration files for sites and travel the country and help other integration companies install Schoolview at their customer’s schools. I started working on software tools to automate the tedious and error-prone task of manually developing XML files to configure sites. And I created the Schoolview decrypt tool to obfuscate the XMLs so that they weren’t tampered with.
In 2011, AMX acquired Schoolview, and I moved over with mostly the same responsibilities as before. I continued creating tools for automating tedious processes. I also started doing technical training for Schoolview while at AMX.
At the end of 2013, I was offered an opportunity to work on the largest Schoolview integration to date by an integration company in Lubbock. Along with an average of 5 other employees, we were able to complete the integration of 24 Schoolview Bell & PA systems with RESQ in 24 campuses in three months. After the Schoolview projects were completed, I started working on design and programming projects using AMX and BSS equipment of all types. Courtrooms, 4ore! Golf, multi-million dollar homes, emergency centers, and more. Projects I worked on also included the Sports Performance Complex and Systems Admin Office at Texas Tech.
In 2018 I went back to work for AMX, which was since acquired by Harman International. Upon leaving the integrator, I was asked to continue contracting for Midland County to keep their systems consistent. That contract work would eventually lead me to forming REMS AV.For a period, I was the only sales engineer dedicated to K-12 for Harman. And I worked closely with the only salesperson dedicated to K-12. 8 months later, another sales engineer was added, and within two years we almost doubled K-12 sales.
COVID resulted in layoffs at Harman, which eventually led me back to the integration company I had previously worked for. I spent another few years there before deciding that I did not have enough control over the experience we were giving customers. And, I finally decided to make REMS AV into a full integration company.
